Scrubs and Exfoliating Products for Radiant Skin Renewal
Exfoliation is a popular body treatment for both facial and body skin, offering hydration and aiding in skin cell renewal, resulting in softer and smoother skin. Exfoliation typically involves various scrubs combined with aromatic oils or massage oils. Regular exfoliation can make the skin appear youthful and radiant, and it can be done 1-2 times a week. It helps remove dirt, residue, and dead skin cells from the body. After exfoliating, it is important to nourish the skin with a moisturizer once again.
Consumer Demand for Scrubs and Skin Exfoliating Products
A key factor driving the growth of the exfoliating scrub market is the rising consumer demand for skincare products and the increasing variety of products offered by various brands.
The growing popularity of exfoliating scrubs, especially among female users, shows that this group often prefers products that deliver quick results. They also have a demand for products that help achieve smooth, fair, and bright skin. This has made such products extremely popular as the ingredients in the exfoliating scrubs help remove dead skin cells, and can also reduce skin dullness.
Furthermore, different types of scrubs are used in spas or beauty salons to moisturize the skin. All these factors are expected to increase the demand for exfoliating scrubs in the market.
Types of Skin Scrubs Popular in Thailand
In Thailand, skin scrub products are expected to take a larger share of the market. This growth stems from an increasing consumer demand for skin care products that nourish the skin and promote a brighter, clearer complexion, particularly due to the hot weather that can damage and roughen the skin.
There are various types of exfoliating products, and they can be most easily categorized by their texture, broadly divided into five types:
- Cream Scrubs are creamy skin nourishment products that contain a mixture of water and oils with scrubbing beads, which may be natural or synthetic seeds. The primary purpose of cream scrubs is to provide smooth skin while simultaneously exfoliating.
- Gel Scrubs are gel-textured scrubs that may contain scrubbing beads. They often come in foaming and non-foaming types. Gel scrubs typically incorporate a 2-in-1 shower gel formula with exfoliating beads.
- Clay Scrubs have a semi-solid, mud-like consistency. The main goal of clay scrubs is to detoxify the skin, absorb excess oils, and are commonly used for exfoliation along with skin masking.
- Oil Scrubs are clear or cloudy in appearance and contain more than 70% oil in their formulations, using oils known for their skin-nourishing properties, such as argan oil or rosehip oil. After using and rinsing off an oil scrub, it leaves the skin feeling slick and soft, akin to a spa or skin massage treatment.
- Peeling Scrubs are highly popular and sought after in the market today. They are a widely accepted method of facial skin care due to their ability to stimulate the renewal of skin cells, particularly peeling scrubs containing AHA and BHA acids. These ingredients are known to reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen production, and help skin appear younger and more radiant. Peeling scrubs are often more expensive but are recognized for their effective results and widely accepted by users.
Classifying scrubs based on the texture of the product is crucial in choosing the right ingredients suitable for different skin types, and for manufacturers to produce products that meet specific needs, such as smoothness, oil absorption, or restoring moisture, etc. Therefore, selecting ingredients for scrubs should be carefully considered to meet the needs and preferably chosen from compounds that do not contain chemical ingredients.
Natural Ingredients in Skin Scrubs
When it comes to scrubs, it’s important to talk about the texture of the scrub particles and the different types available. Each type of scrub particle affects the exfoliating experience differently. Larger grains are suitable for rougher skin or areas that can withstand more abrasion, while finer grains are ideal for gently exfoliating delicate areas such as the face, joints, and the inner thighs. The components of scrubs often come from natural ingredients, such as:
- Salt: Fine grains perfect for exfoliating thick and coarse areas like the soles of the feet, knees, elbows, or the body more generally.
- Sugar: These are angular and larger grains typically used on especially rough skin or when you want to easily remove dead skin cells in tougher areas.
- Herbs or Natural Vegetables: Such as tamarind, turmeric, thanaka, tomatoes, these are chemical-free natural plants and vegetables that can be ground into a powder or used as an extract in exfoliating products.
- Coffee Beans: These dark brown beans have a distinctive aroma and a rough texture similar to salt and sand, making coffee grounds a natural, skin-friendly scrub.
- Strawberry Seeds: Small, hard, brown, oval-shaped seeds that provide a good exfoliating texture.
- Apricot Seeds: Round and brown, these are finely ground to create a scrub that is gentle and won’t scratch the skin, suitable for both face and body.
- Olive Seeds: Crushed to a fine powder, these natural scrub particles are perfect for exfoliating both face and body.
- Plastic Beads or Microbeads are non-biodegradable scrub particles, thus their production and use in products are prohibited by law.
- Jojoba Beads: Similar to microbeads but softer and environmentally friendly.
Most ingredients in scrubs, therefore, come from natural sources, and may include other compounds such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and oils to help nourish the skin. Choosing natural ingredients for skincare has many benefits, offering valuable properties without undesirable side effects for the user’s health.
Current Trends in the Skin Scrub Market
The skin scrub market is continuously growing, particularly among women who are conscious about taking care of their facial and body skin. It is predicted that the market for skin scrubs will continue to expand, with a focus on producing high-quality products that are safe for consumers. These include products with natural ingredients, a greater emphasis on organic products, and those that are environmentally friendly. There is an incorporation of technology in production, as well as the use of social media to increase promotional opportunities and sales to consumers, especially among those interested in skin care, such as women aged 20 and above.
Moreover, there is a trend toward utilizing new technologies to improve the effectiveness of facial skin care products, aiming to achieve higher quality and performance. Products are being tailored to suit users in every demographic group.
